Southern Yorke Peninsula Fishing
The Southern Yorke Peninsula offers an incredible variety of fishing, from sheltered bays and beaches to exposed surf, rocky coastline and offshore waters.
Depending on the location and conditions, you can target species including king george whiting, Australian salmon, mullet, garfish, squid, tommy ruff and flathead, with different species becoming more active throughout the year.
Fishing conditions can change quickly depending on wind, swell, tide and weather, particularly along the exposed western and southern coastline. A productive fishing spot on one day may be uncomfortable or unsafe the next, so choosing the right location for the conditions is important.

North Berry Bay
With easy access via the boardwalk, North Berry Bay is a great place to try beach fishing and is particularly well known for Australian salmon.
Beach formation changes throughout the year, so take a moment from the car park to look for deeper, darker water and gutters where fish are more likely to be moving.

Things to watch for
Berry Bay is exposed to Southern Ocean swell and conditions can become powerful quickly. Watch the surf before heading onto the beach and stay well clear of the water when larger swell is running.
Dandy (Dany Beach on Google Maps)
Along the whole front beach of Corny Point until the lighthouse, Dandy is one of the more reliable local areas for mullet when they are around, particularly with high tide/plenty of water over the shallows.
The occasional king george whiting and flathead can also be caught here, making it a good option for a relaxed land-based session.

Things to watch for
Fishing is generally better with a fuller tide. At low tide, take the opportunity to identify reefs and other snags before the water comes back in.
Gleesons Landing
The surf beaches around Gleesons Landing can offer excellent fishing for Australian salmon and mulloway, particularly around productive gutters.
Mulloway are often targeted around dawn and dusk, while squid can sometimes be caught from suitable rocky ledges when wind and swell conditions allow.

Parts of Gleesons Landing sit within the Southern Spencer Gulf Marine Park, including protected sanctuary areas. Always check current marine park boundaries before fishing.

The Southern Yorke Peninsula also overlaps the Southern Spencer Gulf Marine Park. Fishing is permitted across much of the marine park, but fishing and other extractive activities are prohibited within sanctuary zones.
