Accessibility
At Neptune's we believe the joy of surfing and ocean exploration should be accessible to everyone. We strive to create an inclusive, welcoming, and safe environment for all individuals, regardless of ability, age, background, or experience level. Whether you're catching your first wave, joining a group lesson, or hiring equipment for a day by the beach, our goal is to ensure that everyone feels supported and included.
Our friendly and experienced team is committed to tailoring each experience to meet your needs. From beginners to seasoned surfers, and from young children to those with additional needs, we’ll work with you to make the most of your time on the beautiful Yorke Peninsula.
Increasing Accessibility
We are continuously working to make our services as accessible as possible. Here are some of the ways we aim to meet the needs of all our guests:
-
Age Range: We frequently coach participants as young as 4 years old up to ages 70+.
-
Swimming Ability: If you aren't a confident swimmer you can still use all our services. We only operate in safe locations where you will be able to stand at all times. Waves also break all the way to the shore so you only need to go as far as you're confident.
-
One on One: For participants requiring one-on-one attention in the water we are always happy to facilitate, let us know in advance and we can arrange for additional instructors.
-
Adaptable Lessons: Our surf instructors are skilled at tailoring lessons to accommodate different abilities, ensuring everyone can participate safely and confidently.
-
Accessible Locations: We operate at beaches with relatively accessible pathways and nearby parking options, including spaces designated for those with mobility aids.
-
Friendly and Supportive Team: Our staff are trained to provide a patient and inclusive environment for all participants, creating a welcoming space to learn and grow.
Accessibility Limitations
While we’re proud of the steps we’ve taken, we acknowledge there are some limitations to our current facilities:
-
Terrain Variability: Beach accessibility is dependent on natural terrain and weather conditions. Surf lessons have the limitation of stairs at all locations however equipment hire is accessible to all.
-
Wheelchair Access: We lack wheelchair access for our surf lesson locations due to stairs. Equipment hire is wheelchair accessible and driving directly onto the beach is available.
-
Changing Facilities: We rely on public amenities at our operating locations, and while some include accessible features, others may have limited facilities.
-
Limited Adaptive Equipment: At this time, we do not have adaptive equipment like specialized surfboards or beach wheelchairs in our inventory.
-
Emergency Access: Remote or less-developed beaches may have limited access for emergency services or specialized transport, which could affect participants with urgent medical or mobility needs.
Uneven Surfaces: Sand and other natural beach elements may pose challenges for wheelchair users or those with mobility aids, even with assistance. -
Limited Shade and Shelter: Outdoor environments like beaches may lack shade or cover, which could pose difficulties for individuals sensitive to sun exposure.
We’re continually exploring ways to enhance our accessibility and welcome feedback to help guide improvements.
